Dr. Kornel Golebski was given the ARIA-EUFOREA Henning Løwenstein Research Award during the EUFOREA Forum in Sitges near Barcelona on 14th November 2019.
The prestigious award is given every second year in a collaboration between ALK and The European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airway diseases, EUFOREA. The award is named after Prof. Henning Løwenstein, former head of ALK Research, in recognition of his yearlong efforts to advance the scientific foundation for allergen immunotherapy.
The EUR 20,000 award was given to Dr. Kornel Golebski for excellence shown within the field of allergy research by Prof. Henning Løwenstein and Prof. Peter Hellings, in conjunction.
Dr. Kornel Golebski was educated as a PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Wytske J. Fokkens and Dr C.M. van Drunen. The title of his thesis was: “Regulation and Cross-Talk between Environmental Triggers of Local Immune Responses in Airway Epithelial Cells.”
After his PhD he continued his studies at the Amsterdam University Medical Center, now focusing on mechanisms leading to type 2 inflammatory responses in the pathologies of the human airways, such as allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, and severe asthma. Kornel Golebski aim to dissect the mechanism controlling the inflammatory processes in these pathologies, with special attention to the airway epithelium and innate lymphoid cells and a cross-talk between those cells.
The research conducted by Kornel Golebski has already shown great impact for the understanding of the cellular mechanisms of airway inflammation in the lungs as well as in the nose, and his research represent a distinguished line of research with the potential to improve the lives of allergic patients in the future.
Dr. Kornel Golebski is truly a worthy recipient of the ARIA-EUFOREA Henning Løwenstein Research Award 2019.
